Mexican Independence Day

Discovery celebrated the 200th anniversary of Mexican Independence Day in Brighton at a fiesta filled with food, fun and entertainment including a traditional Mariachi band, dancers, piñatas and face-painting for children.

Crowds cheered on our four plucky teams as they took on the delicate challenge of creating the tallest stack of tortillas, with the Discovery Team setting a new Guinness World Record* of 58 cm (approximately 270 flour tortillas),. Even The Mayor and Mayoress of Brighton & Hove, Councillor Geoff and Mrs Sally Wells, joined in the fun.

You may have seen the competition we ran in S Magazine recently; the lucky winners, a family from Plymouth, will be enjoying a luxurious holiday in Mexico. Maybe they’ll send us a postcard!

Our Mexican Independence Day celebrations in Brighton were a great opportunity for us to help support our chosen charity Toy Box. Our dedicated team supplied a happy stream of families with handcrafted Mexican inspired gifts. Toy Box offers hope and opportunity to street children in Latin America, giving them the chance of a new start and a brighter future.
