Cactus to eat?

Are we serious? Yes, it may sound like an unusual thing to eat but Cactus is a very poular food in Mexico.

Geniune sliced cactus paddles, without the spikes or nopalitos  as it's known in Mexico is eaten raw, baked or barbecued and like jalapeno peppers and guacamole, it is usually eated as a meal accompaniment or part of a mixed salad.

The latest superfood?
Forget aduzki beans, pumpkin seeds or cranberries, as well as being a tasty accompaniment to Mexican food, Cactus is also good for you.

Cactus is low in calories: rich in vitamins (A, B, C & K) and anti-oxidants: high in soluble fibre and proven to lower blood sugar and blood cholesterol and also reputed to heighten sexual desire.
